About us
Bienvenidos! Welcome to the Orosi Valley Spanish School located in Orosi, Costa Rica. My name is Flor Granados-Calderon and I am the director of this school.
I have been teaching Spanish here in Costa Rica for well over 20 years. I began my career in the primary schools and I have also worked as a private tutor. Throughout my career I have come across many different types of students from all around the world.
From my students, I discovered that there is a need for Spanish language training, and more importantly, quick immersion training. So I developed a practical,12-day Spanish immersion course. This course has been designed to satisfy, in a quick and efficient manner, the growing need for Spanish language skills.
It has become very popular amongst tourists who are looking to increase their ability to travel throughout Costa Rica and other Latin American countries with ease. I have also tailored this course to working professionals who are looking to improve their language comprehension. My school also offers long term programs for those interested in staying for longer than 12 days.
Spanish lessons are provided at different levels from beginner through advanced and all students receive personalized, one-on-one attention. The Orosi Valley School stresses oral communication and vocabulary is related to the areas of daily life. I have devoted my entire professional career to the Spanish language and it is my goal to ensure that you acquire Spanish with ease.
Methodology
The Orosi Valley Spanish School is a cheerful and congenial place to acquire the Spanish language. It is designed as a one on one homestay where you, the student, will live in the seperate living area that is adjacent to my family residence.
Breakfast and dinner are provided on the days of your classes and you will have many opportunities to converse and learn with family. We all enjoy meeting and relating to people from different countries and backgrounds. Immediate communication is the goal of my courses.
My method stresses the development of speaking skills and listening comprehension through memorization and oral practice. Grammar explanations are simple and practical which allows for my students to make immediate use of vocabulary while speaking. These rules are used actively so that the correct forms can be recognized quickly by the student.
Here at the Orosi Valley School my emphasis is on one-on-one Spanish lessons, but, I will allow for up to two more students if they are of the same comprehension level. In my experience it is best to keep class sizes small this way active participation of each student is assured.
This one-on-one situation provides a relaxed classroom atmosphere for the student to learn and it also facilitates spontaneity. Here in Orosi, the acquired skills are immediately applied in real-life situations. Walking through the town, visiting places of interest, shopping, meeting people and interacting with my family, all provide great opportunities for further practice and improvement. This whole community becomes your giant classroom.
